The best way to see Flinders and get a true insight into ‘island life’ is with an Islander. With just a little local knowledge you’ll be armed and ready to explore everything the Island has to offer. And there are plenty of activities to enjoy all year round, from walking, fishing and bird watching to combing miles of deserted beaches and fossicking for sea shells and precious gems.
Getting here is part of the fun! Your visit to Flinders Island starts with a scenic flight across Bass Strait from either Launceston, Tasmania (35 minutes), Hobart, Tasmania (1hr) or Melbourne, Victoria (1 hour) with Sharp Airlines or charter your own aircraft or catch the weekly barge with Bass Strait Freight from Bridport, Tasmania docking in the all-tides port of Lady Barron.
______
Flinders Island is a network of approximately 450km of sealed and unsealed roads, all suitable for 2WD vehicles. From these roads you can access the major Townships, many lookouts and beaches.
______
Local produce is well represented at the supermarkets in both Lady Barron and Whitemark. Muttonbirds and fresh fish are available from Flinders Island Meats.
Try the local ‘Fish of the Day’ at the Furneaux Tavern or sample the local wallaby at the Interstate Hotel.
