Immerse yourself in ‘island life’ by getting involved in the many community events on offer. It’s the best way to get to know the local characters, meet the producers, taste some of the world’s best produce and revel in the many sporting and cultural festivals.
Summer is party season on the island. The first Saturday in January is the Emita Sports Day which has been running for over 50 years. This family friendly event includes sack races, three-legged races, Catch That Egg, and the Boat Race.
The second Saturday in January is the Music in the Vines which is a great day out for all. The day is held at Unavale Vineyard at Badger Corner, where the music, food and wine are on for young and old.
The third weekend in January is the Furneaux Islands Festival which celebrates island community, culture, food and music with a series of events of three days.
The first weekend in September there is the Flinders Island Running Festival featuring the 26km half marathon Pub-to-Pub run and the 5km fun run/walk.
The middle of October sees the annual Flinders Island Show, with both local and off-island exhibitors.
